All-Star Cast of Scholars 2020

Saul Blinkoff, Animator/Producer started his career on the hit DISNEY films Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Mulan and Tarzan and went on to direct, Winnie the Pooh, Kronk’s New Groove and the hit DISNEY show Doc McStuffins. He directed; Llama Llama and Barbie Dreamhouse Adventures for NETFLIX and is currently a Supervising Producer at DREAMWORKS. Saul lives in Los Angeles with his wife and four children.

Dr. Michael Bloom completed medical school and residency training at the University of Toronto.  He currently works as an Anesthesiologist in the Greater Toronto Area.  Dr. Bloom has a particular focus in obstetrical anesthesia as well as pain management for a broad spectrum of surgical procedures. Dr. Bloom serves on the board of directors and is a frequent speaker for Aish HaTorah as well as NCSY.  He is a also a motivational speaker for the Maimonides leadership training course. Dr. Bloom has become popular for his captivating medical lectures on topics of great interest to the general public.  He keeps his audiences engaged through personal stories & humorous anecdotes of his most memorable experiences on the front lines of the health care system. 

Rabbi David Elbaz currently learns in Kollel and serves as a Rabbi and speaker in Hollywood, Florida. Rabbi Elbaz grew up in Brooklyn, New York and taught in the Yeshivah of Flatbush. He is married to Jill  Kairey from Deal, New Jersey who is a chef, a baker, an artist and a dancer. Rabbi and Rabbanit Elbaz lived in Lakewood, NJ where he received Semicha before moving to the Hollywood, Florida community where their fourth child was born. Rabbi Elbaz will be one of our scholars and our Sephardic Minyan Rabbi.

Rabbi Gideon Black is the Director of Professional Recruitment and Leadership Development for OU-JLIC, where he positions and mentors rabbinic couples on college campuses across North America and Israel. Previously, Rabbi Black served as the OU-JLIC Rabbi at NYU's Bronfman Center from 2011-2015. Rabbi Black has a law degree from University College London, an MA in Jewish Philosophy from YU-Revel, Semikha from YU-RIETS and completed Columbia Business School's Developing Leaders Program. He has served as a summer rabbi at the Jewish Center of Atlantic Beach for the last two years and is an avid golfer and soccer fan. 

RABBI ARI LAMM is the Special Advisor to the President of Yeshiva University and works on all matters concerning the University’s mission, vision and intellectual and philosophical initiatives. Rabbi Lamm received his BA from YU, an MA as a Fulbright Scholar in Jewish Studies and Eastern Christianity from University College London, and an MA in Religion from Princeton University. Most recently he was Resident Scholar at Manhattan’s Jewish Center. Currently pursuing his PhD in ancient Judaism and Christianity at Princeton, Rabbi Lamm is founding editor and contributor at, an Executive Committee member of Global Unites and a Wexner Graduate Fellow in Jewish Studies.

DR. JAY A. MAZEL, MD FHRS is a Cardiologist/Electrophysiologist at Medstar Cardiology Associates and served as Director of the Cardiac Electrophysiology Department at Medstar Washington Hospital Center in Washington DC. He received his specialty training at Yale-New Haven Hospital & won the ACC Young Investigators award for his research in cardiac arrhythmias. He is the co-author of Cardiology Emergencies and a dynamic speaker. Dr. Mazel is the medical director of Lasko's very successful New Paradigms in Medicine CME program for healthcare professionals. He also serves as the Lasko Getaway's in-house Doctor.

SHARON MAZEL is the co-author of the New York Times bestselling What to Expect series of 8 books, including the popular What to Expect When You’re Expecting. She is an editor and writer for Sharon’s articles have appeared in The Washington Post, Parenting Magazine, BabyTalk, and many others. A former television news producer and writer at NBC, FOX, and WPIX, Sharon is a graduate of Columbia University’s Barnard College, earned a Masters degree from Columbia’s Graduate School of Journalism and was also a Wexner Heritage Fellow. 

RONA NOVICK, PhD, Dean of the Azrieli Graduate School of Jewish Education & Administration, holds the Raine Stanley Silverstein Chair in Professional Ethics and Values. In addition to her Yeshiva University appointment, Dr. Novick serves as the Co-Educational Director of The Hidden Sparks program providing consultation and professional development to day schools and Yeshivas. Rona has extensive clinical and research expertise in behavior management and is an editor and an author of children's books and one for parents too.  Dr. Novick authored the BRAVE bully prevention program for schools as well. Her blog is called Life's Toolbox and her children's book Can You Stop the Rain will be published in  2019.
